Short answer: TODO has a built-in remote MCP server with 24 tools covering the daily pad, the weekly pad, lists, subtasks, search and task results. Any MCP client that supports remote servers with OAuth (Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor) can connect. Copy your connection URL from the MCP setup page, sign in, approve access, and the assistant works on the same tasks you see in the app.

    The Basics

    • Transport: remote MCP over HTTP. Nothing to install or run on your computer.
    • Sign-in: OAuth. You approve access once on a TODO consent screen. There is no API key to copy.
    • Scope: only your own tasks, plus lists other people have shared with you.
    • Activity: the MCP page shows which assistants are connected and what they changed.
    • Price: included free with every TODO account.

How Assistants Decide Whether to Do a Task

The server tells assistants to read a task's notes and attachments before doing anything. A task is only treated as ready when five things are clear: the steps, the apps or accounts involved, the people, what done looks like, and the timeline. If any are missing, the assistant asks you in one short message instead of guessing, then saves your answers onto the task with add_task_context.

To make tasks easy to hand over, write the notes like this:

    • Context: why it matters.
    • Steps: what to do, in order.
    • Inputs: links, files, names and exact values.
    • Done when: how you'll know it's finished.

    Connect in Two Minutes

    1. Sign in to TODO and open the MCP setup page. Copy your connection URL.
    2. Add it as a custom connector in your assistant. Step-by-step guides: Claude Code and Cowork, ChatGPT, Codex.
    3. Sign in to TODO when asked and press Allow access.
    4. Ask: "Using TODO, what's on today?"

    • "Add 'renew car insurance' to Friday with a note to compare three quotes."

    • "Find my task about the landlord email, read the notes and draft it."
    • "Mark the first three tasks on my Shopping list as done."
    • In Claude Code or Codex: "Read my TODO tasks for today and do the ones that are code. Log what you did."
